Best Practices
Our Commitment to Best Practices
Our industry is still in its infancy. Comprehensive industry-wide standards do not yet exist. There are several groups working to develop a framework of best practices, but, until the best features of these various programs are universally accepted, it is paramount that individual companies create, strive for and abide by best practices designed to protect their users and business partners.
Every day, tens of thousands of consumers install our software in order to get access to thousands of pieces of free content ranging from games, to videos, music, software downloads and premium areas of popular websites. As a result of our commitment to best practices, our users are able to make the informed choice of accepting or declining our offer of time-shifted advertising in exchange for free access to our constantly growing catalog of premium content.
The foremost concern of our customers is their own privacy. Recognizing that concern, we are committed to protecting the privacy of our users. Our software does not collect PII, ever. Zango is an active member of the
Online Privacy Alliance (OPA),
International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP),
Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB),
Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) and the
Washington Technology Industry Association.
Steps we take to notify consumers as to what our software does and how it works:
- Before installing our programs, users are provided with plain language disclosures as to what our programs are and how they work, in addition to a complete End User License Agreement and link to our Privacy Policy. Our policy is that the user must opt-in (consent) to the download before the install of our software will initiate;
- We notify every user who downloads our programs with a post-install confirmation message, complete with information about Zango and how it works, the company’s Best Practices and uninstall instructions;
- 90 days after install, and every 90 days after that, users are sent an additional reminder that they have our programs, including information as to how the programs work and uninstall instructions;
- Upon download, our programs provide a system tray icon from which the user can access program information, customer support and uninstall instructions;
- The user can access further information about our programs through the "Start / All Programs" menu, including direct links to customer support and uninstall instructions;
- Zango’s toolbar provides links for users to access and play Zango’s hundreds of games, and view Zango’s tens of thousands of videos, while also providing the consumer the following links: “Go to Zango.com,” “About Zango” and “Support.”
- Delivered ads (Targeted Visitor, Custom Slider, Zango Toolbar) are labeled as coming from our programs and provide a link to further program information and uninstall instructions
- In any instance where we suspect that a partner channel has been compromised, we will provide every user within the compromised channel appropriate messaging. This messaging provides one-click removal of the fraudulently installed software as well as an opportunity for the user to explicitly opt-in if they wish to keep the software.
- Uninstallation of our programs can always be done through the Add/Remove Programs function.
